Plenty Shrinks Its Plans for Chesterfield Strawberry Facility

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in March 2025, Plenty reasserted its intention to finish its plans for a strawberry farm in Chesterfield, Va. However, now, after a year since exiting bankruptcy, Plenty is changing but not abandoning its plans, according to reporting by Richmond BizSense. 

Plenty has amended its agreement with the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority (EDA) that gave the company a better chance of acquiring EDA-owned land next to its existing facility in Meadowville Technology Park. This 22-acre indoor strawberry farm was first announced in 2022, with expectations that it was the first phase of a multi-facility campus that would reach up to 120 acres. This land, initially part of Plenty’s plan, returns to full ownership by the EDA. 

As part of its amendment, Plenty gave up its option for a 66-acre facility expansion while extending its option on a 30-acre site area. This 30-acre option runs until April 2029, followed by a “three-year right-of-first-refusal period on the land.”
