Resource Guide: Improving Produce Safety in Hydroponic and Aquaponic Operations

According to the University of Vermont (UVM), The Northeast Center to Advance Food Safety (NECAFS) released a produce safety guide for hydroponic and aquaponic growers. This resource is available online and can be downloaded as a pdf file.

With this guide, growers can both understand and incorporate produce safety measures into their operations. It covers every part of hydroponic and aquaponic farming, from improving water quality to postharvest handling. Each section links to extra resources for readers to review.

Considering most guides are tailored to field-based growers, hydroponic and aquaponic growers often lack access to relevant resources on produce safety. NECAF’s guide will be one of the first made for this type of production.

Additionally, growers can watch a case study of videos highlighting produce safety in action at Legacy Growers Indoor Hydroponic Farm in Tallahassee, FL.

Get more details and links to view and download the guide on UVM’s website.
